GMC Announces New Policy Strategy
September 16, 2012
PUBLIC POLICY INFORMATION
At its Meeting of the 12th of Sept. 2012, GMC National Executive Committee directed the leadership to deemphasize its principal focus from advocacy of reforms in the electoral process. GMC is of the view that having regard to all of the relevant facts and circumstances, genuine electoral reforms appear formidably unachievable under the existing dispensation. Notwithstanding, GMC is committed to legitimate democratic political processes that would produce and reflect the triumph of the unfettered will and aspirations of Gambian citizens.
The National Executive Committee has therefore approved a Strategy Thrust that supports Legitimate Actions and Plans (LAPS) in the shortest possible time practical, in accordance with the Constitutional purport, within the context of the new internationally accepted political change criteria. Consequently, GMC will now publicly initiate, endorse and support all legitimate measures that would lead to the formation of a broad based inclusive national consultative mechanism to achieve this goal. GMC remains fully committed to the law, national unity, peace, stability and social dignity. We request for the strong support of all Gambians.
