Saul Saidy, a reporter with The Gambia News and Report Magazine, a weekly publication, was arrested on Wednesday and taken into police custody.
Mr. Saidy was arrested at the Banjul International Airport shortly before the departure of the visiting Senegalese president, Maitre Abdoulaye Wade on Wednesday afternoon. He was taken into custody by Yundum police.
Police have issued no reason for Mr. Saidy's arrest. Our sources said he went to the airport along with other journalists to interview president Wade before his departure.
Saidy was seen by his colleagues driven in a police vehicle with tinted windows and without a number-plates.
His whereabouts remain unknown, and police would not comment on his arrest.
