The Department of Justice has appointed a Cameroonian national Sheriff of the High Court of The Gambia, sources close to the judiciary said Friday.
Josseph A. Effim's appointment came less than three months after he was appointed magistrate in Brikama. He now replaces Pa Harry Jammeh who is now the Solicitor General and Legal Secretary at the Attorney General's Chambers.
Effim, our sources said, attended the same law school with Pa Harry Jammeh, where the pair are believed to have built friendship.
Senegambia News has also learned the appointment of Ms Fatou Lili Drammeh as Master of the High Court. Until her appointment, Ms Drammeh was Acting Principal Magistrate of the Kanifing Court.
It could be recalled that in October 2009, police arrested Judicial secretary Haruna Jaiteh for his alleged complicity in the embezzlement of about D4M.
Three High Court Justices were also dismissed for their alleged involvement in the misappropriation of public funds. They were Justices Nguie Mboob-Janneh, Justice Justice Safie Njie and Amina Saho-Ceesay.
It was alleged their dismissal was prompted by the unravelling of gross mismanagement of public funds by the then newly appointed Sheriff, Pa Harry Jammeh. |
