Armed Gambian army and paramilitary officers mount checkpoints in the metropolis as coup fears grip the nation
As coup hysteria hovers over the country following high profiled dismissals of the military's top brass and some cabinet ministers, Gambian president Yahya Jammeh has deployed armed men along the main road from Brikama to Abuko bridge.

Our reporter says heavily armed soldiers and paramilitary officers with machine guns, have mounted checkpoints from Briakama, where armed soldiers were seen patrolling the streets last night.

"The airport looks like a war zone. You could see soldiers fully armed with rounds of munition all over their body buried in bushes around the airport", our reporter says.

Guinea Conakry's interim head of state, General Sekouba Konaté was in Gambia for unexplained brief visit.

Senegambia News has also confirmed that Gambian government intends to bring 14 witnesses to testify against former army chief, Lang Tombong Tamba and a handful of other top military officers accused of attempting to seize power. They are due back in court tomorrow.

Defense attorney Sheriff Tambedou who represents Abdoulie Joof, will also represent General Tamba. Former NIA operative Gibril Ngorr Secka and erstwhile police chief, Modou Gaye, will be represented by veteran lawyer and former justice minister, Pap Cheyassin Secka.

Colonel Lamin Bo Badjie and Lieutenant Colonel Kawsu Camara (Bombardier), the most lethal henchman of president Jammeh's terror squad have yet to have attorneys.
