President Yahya Jammeh fires defense perm sec
Senegambia News has learned that president Yahya Jammeh has dismissed the permanent secretary of defense Mr. Joseph Jassey. He is the longest serving permanent secretary in president Jammeh's administration.
No official reason was given for Mr Jassey's removal and a replacement is yet to be announced by the president, who is himself the defense minister.
Jassey too was removed from office on Wednesday, the day army chief of staff Lang Tombong Tamba and four other top military officials were rejected from the Gambia National Army.
President Jammeh also visited Fajara military barracks on Saturday afternoon to see the living condition of soldiers, says our correspondent. The Gambian leader was visibly 'pleased' with conditions there than Yundum barracks, where soldiers are reported to be living in deplorable condition.
