The seven Gambian journalists who were arrested on June 15, and charged with sedition, are now expected to appear before a high Court judge in Banjul on July 3.

The seven were initially scheduled to appear before a magistrate's court in Kanifing on July 7, but state prosecutors have changed that date after they had modified the charge sheet to include two additional charges, which now brings the charges to a total of five counts. The new charges include a 'defamation' against president Yahya Jammeh.

The seven journalists will now stand before a Nigerian born judge, Justice Joseph Wowo, who is considered one of the many mercenary judges in the country.

The seven journalists, Sam Sarr of Foroyaa News, Pap Saine, Emil Touray, Ebrima Sawaneh, Sarata Jabbie Dibba and Abubacarr Saidykhan - all from the embattled The Point Newspaper
