Minnesotans to Send Medica Supplies to Gambia

The Gambian Association of Minnesota is sending a forty foot container of medical supplies comprising hospital beds/mattresses, wheel chairs, syringes/needles, crash carts, neonatal beds, computers, boxes of exam/surgical gloves, walkers, exam chairs, orthopedic supplies (braces, slings, supports, prosthesis), glucose testing devices, and other miscellaneous items as donation to Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, The Gambia.

42 of the hospital beds were purchased by the Gambian Association of Minnesota, and the rest of the items were donated by Miga Solutions, Sholom Home West, Northpoint Health and Wellness Center and Crystal Care Center. $6,000 shipping cost was paid exclusively by the Gambians in Minnesota through their generous annual contributions to the Association. The value of these items is estimated to exceed $150,000 (over 4 million Dalasis)

Gambian Association of Minnesota serves as the premier resource for Gambians in Minnesota. It provides inspiration, education and networking opportunities in other to promote and strengthen the welfare of all Gambians, and is formed to bring together Gambian immigrants living in Minnesota, United States to get to know one another, celebrate common heritage and diversity, develop sustainable relationships that would help integrate them well into the society, and also extend charitable contributions in education and health to The Gambia. The Association is a registered non-profit, 501(c) 3, serving an estimate of six hundred Gambians.

Similarly, Gambian Association donated 35,000 text books worth over $165,000 to Ministry of Education in 2009 in partnership with Money Gram International and Books For Africa.

Leadership of the Gambian Association would like to thank the entire Gambian Community in Minnesota for their moral and financial supports, and our donors for this project named above.

We hope this donation will go a long way to help the Ministry in its efforts of making the health accessible to all Gambians.
